How Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) Affects your SEO?

Once, the niggling downside of utilising a browser over the phone was that it was a slow, clunky experience. Now the situation has been all but reversed thanks to Google AMP which is an initiative designed to not only make run times faster but also fosters the creation of mobile optimised content.

 

So What Does This Mean for SEO?

Because AMP is designed to make the Google search experience better, it stands to reason that such mobile enhanced websites will receive a rankings boost.

In Figure 6.7 from moz.com, we see how AMP is listed in the snippet of a search result. This is a marker to anyone on a mobile device, of a website that is geared for mobile use.

Finding AMP powered pages is simple, all you need to do is:

  1. Grab your smartphone
  2. Input a hot topic search
  3. See the results

Unfortunately AMP is not a Google ranking factor as of yet. However the speed it provides does provide a number of indirect bonuses that DO positively affect SEO such as improvements to bounce and click rates.
